Located in western France, Angers is a city with a rich history that dates back to before the French Revolution. It was once the stronghold of the Plantagenet Dynasty and was also one of Europe's intellectual centres during the reign of René of Anjou. Take a drive to the Château d'Angers by the river Maine, which will take you back to the 12th century, while the Saint-Maurice cathedral with its 75 metre spires showcases a combination of gothic and romanesque architecture. For more modern activity, at the end of the city lies the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional natural park, where you can spend a good day with family either on a picnic or exploring. If you are here when performances are held in the Grand Théâtre or at the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, you can sit back and enjoy some of the city's best performers.
