The small Maltese village of Luqa is in the island's southern region. An old town, it was established in 1634 by Papal decree. It's a good place to use as a base for exploring the wider island. Luqa is also just 7 km from the capital Valletta, meaning that all the sights of this historic city are on your doorstep, like the Casa Rocca Piccola and the many museums. Being fairly centrally located, means that the island's myriad of wonderful beaches are all a short car ride away, as well as the various UNESCO sites, such as the Megalithic Temples and Hal Saflieni Hypogeum.
