Driving Tips

Driving Tips

Driving is on the right in Romania, and priority is given to traffic coming from the right, except at roundabouts.

Speed Limits

Speed limits are measured in kilometres per hour, and are 50 km/h in towns and cities, and 90 km/h in more rural areas. You can drive 100 km/h on dual carriageways and 130 km/h on the motorway.

Traffic Laws

You should carry your driving licence, rental contract and proof of ID such as your passport with you when driving in Romania. The alcohol limit for driving in Romania is zero, and you can be stopped at random and breathalysed. The police can impose on-the-spot fines for driving offences, and they have the right to suspend your driving licence, even if you're from another country. You will only be allowed to collect your licence when you're leaving the country, and you will have to provide proof of departure.

You can only park on the right hand side of the road, as close to the pavement as possible. If you remain stationary for longer than five minutes you are considered to have parked. Parking illegally incurs a fine, and you may have your vehicle clamped or towed away.

Major Routes

Much of Romania's motorway network is still under construction, so many areas of the country have to be accessed using European routes and National Roads, most of which are dual carriageways. The road network radiates outwards from the capital, Bucharest, with seven of the major National Roads originating here.

Film Locations

Romania has provided the settings for a variety of blockbuster movies in recent years. The village of Glod was the title character's home town in the 2006 film Borat. Great and fast service, nice new cars.

I edited this review back to 4 stars given that Sixt helped me to fix a miaunderstanding with the payment. I highly appreciate the support and have no further complaint. The service worked as expected, thanks!

Alina R.

Good experience. I highly recommend them.

I lowered my review qfter I received an extra charge in my card, but Sixt helped me to figure out the misundrrstanding. The money is now back and my review comes back to the beginning. Good service and covered expectations. Thanks!

Past review:

The service was good and the personnel very helpful. Only recommendation is for Sixt to fix the address in the reservation, which currently points you to an outside lot where you pick up the cars. To clarify, if you rent a car here first get a contract inside the airport and then they can take you by shuttle to the pick up point. (We saw another group fall in the same error and it seems this may be something common)

Very nice staff, but unfortunately only one person is at the office which means that if they have more clients you'll have to wait a lot (the second time I arrived there was a โ‰ˆ5 person queue, which translated to about 45 minutes witing time - thus the 4 stars).

The car we recieved had a couple of issues and after diacussing with the staff they offered us an upgrade.

The car was rented from Sixt. The car was new, excellent, clean, and the staff were helpful, especially Brother Redwan, but the bad thing was the delay in lifting the ban on the security deposit.

We rented a car for 4 days directly at the airport without pre booking. The agent taking care of us was very, very professional and helpful. We received a Skoda Rapid in a very good condition and all the instructions needed. We will definitely return to Sixt when in Sibiu and perhaps in other locations too.

As general advice: if you arrive early in the morning at the airport they might still have cars to rent without pre booking, otherwise not pre booking might be a bit risky. We paid by card but it can be a good idea to have cash with you.

Always a good experience, until now. The pick-up takes maybe too long but otherwise free upgrades for shorter rentals are sometimes given. The location is a bit out of the way but they made the van pick-up more efficient (at least it feels like that lately) so you don't have to wait too long.

Easy pick up at airport, convenient and customer friendly at a great price on a good car.

Nice service

Well kept and maintained cars

I made a reservation via the Sixt App and had additional insurance covering the excess provided through my credit card. Sebastian gave me a very efficient and informative check-in experience and his younger colleague inspecting the car was very friendly and accurate both during check-in and checkout. The car was a small upgrade to the initially booked category and fairly new with 18k kilometres on the clock. To sum up, I had a very good experience with Sixt at Sibiu Airport and would recommend them anytime! Thank you

The early morning staff was outstanding. Quick in and quick out. Car was new and nice.

Great customer service

The guys were super helpful. Our booked car turned to be quite small for our luggage and 3 children. I thought that specific car was bigger than actually is. There were super and exchanged our car to a more family sized car. They even helped us packing in and of corse all these at 1 AM at night since our plane arrived quite late. So thumbs up and thanks guys!
