Located at the mouth of the river Nissan, Halmstad is a university town and has a population of just over 60,000. Founded in 1307, it is an important economic and cultural hub on the south west coast of Sweden. Popular sights in the region include the fascinating Galgberget, which is an open air museum recreating the Swedish way of life from the 16th and 17th centuries. The river Nissan is a beautiful location for a leisurely walk. You could also take your car hire outside of Halmstad on a short trip to the coast. Some of the beaches are spectacular, such as Tylosand Strand which has miles of gorgeous white sand.
