Traffic Information
Our car rental desk at Toulouse Airport is clearly signposted in Hall C of the arrivals terminal. Once your car hire paperwork is complete the city is just 15 minutes away on the A621. Toulouse-Matabiau Train Station is centrally located near the River Garonne and easily accessible by bus, tram or Metro. Our Toulouse City branch is in the northern suburbs of the town and can be reached by taxi or bus.
Driving in Toulouse is straightforward although avoiding the morning and evening rush hours is advisable. The historic city centre has some narrow streets and pedestrianised areas but with a Sat Nav navigating them is easy. The A61, A62, A64 and A68 roads give quick access to the surrounding countryside.
Metered street parking is available across the city with time limits of between 2 and 4 hours. There are also plenty of well-signposted multistoreys. Most areas have free parking on Sundays.
Toulouse is at the centre of the European aerospace industry which helps create the marked contrast between the old and new that is visible as you explore the city in your car hire. There are several river crossings, the oldest of which is the Pont-Neuf constructed in the 16th century. The small historic centre is full of attractive mansions, many now hotels, that reflect the city's prosperous past. Take a tour of the 11th century Basilica Saint Sernin or enjoy the tranquil cloisters of Le Couvent des Jacobins. Les Abbatoirs and the Georges Labit Museum exhibit art and antiquities from around the world. Younger family members will enjoy the educational and interactive exhibits, spacecraft replicas and small planetarium at Space City, located approximately 15 minutes drive South East of the centre. Round off your visit to Toulouse with a gentle boat ride along the Garonne or on the canal system that links the city to both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
Visit the world's largest passenger aircraft's HQ
Toulouse is the European headquarters of the Airbus Group, one of the biggest employers in the area. It is well worth booking a tour to visit this large site. The tour focuses on the Airbus A380, revealing all the secrets of this double-decker plane from initial design to final completion. From a viewing platform in the huge J. L. Lagardère Plant, you can see planes in production before visiting the Telemetry Room and enjoying presentations of the plane's test flights. You should note that photography is not allowed and photo ID is needed to take part in a tour. The Airbus site can be found next to Toulouse-Blagnac Airport.
Sightseeing Destinations
The delightful town of Albi on the River Tarn is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to Sainte-Cécile, the largest brick-built cathedral in the world. Albi was also the home of Toulouse-Lautrec whose work can be seen in the town's museum.
