OCTOBER 2022: We were very pleasantly surprised to get a free upgrade to a brand new BMW 220, from a Fiat 500. (We'd like to thank the agent who did that for us, I'm not sure I remember the name but I think it was Giuseppe). Everything went smoothly. We made the booking ONLINE in advance which seemed to be the better option, as people next to us wanted to book the car on the spot, but small cars were not available anymore, and therefore they had to pay a larger fee. We already paid for the smaller car, but since they didn't have any left, we got a bigger car for the same price. The agent showed us all the scratches on the car during the handover, which we took photos of. On return, we provided these photos to prove that all the scratches were preexisting and there were no issues with the return. Overall it was a great and stress-free experience.
